Wix SEO Services

Wix sites can rank. What they cannot do is everything, and knowing which of those two facts applies to your situation saves a lot of wasted work.

Wix SEO services cover the content, structure, and on-page work a Wix site needs to compete. The platform handles the basics and limits the advanced end. Most Wix sites are not being held back by those limits, because they have not reached them yet.

I work as a freelance Wix SEO consultant with over 10 years of experience in SEO, including sites built on Wix for service businesses and small retailers. The work happens on your existing site, with no rebuild involved.

You work directly with me. One person who looks at the site, works out what is limiting it, and tells you honestly whether the platform is part of that or not.

Is Wix Good for SEO?

For the fundamentals, yes. The version of Wix that deserved its reputation stopped existing years ago.

Pages are rendered so search engines can read them without difficulty. Meta titles and descriptions are editable. Canonical tags are handled automatically. Redirects are managed in the dashboard and can be imported in bulk. Robots.txt is editable. Structured data is available for the common page types.

Where Wix runs out of room is the advanced end, and it does so in ways that matter more as a site grows. There is no equivalent to the control WordPress gives you over indexing rules, site structure, or how the site is built and served.

For most Wix sites, that ceiling is not the problem. It sits well above where the site is currently operating. The thing actually limiting the site is usually thin content, titles nobody wrote, and a structure that grew page by page without a plan.

Where Wix Limits You

These are the constraints worth knowing about before anyone promises you results the platform cannot deliver.

  • The sitemap is generated for you, not by you. Wix builds a sitemap index with a separate sitemap for each page type and updates it automatically. There is no direct editing. Removing a URL happens indirectly, by setting the page to noindex or changing its canonical, which is workable but imprecise.
  • Structured data has hard caps. Custom JSON-LD is supported and can be applied across a whole page type, which is better than most people expect. The limits are five markups per SEO setting including the preset, JSON-LD only, and under 7,000 characters each.
  • Additional meta tags are capped at ten. Only meta and link tags are accepted, and you cannot add a tag that Wix already outputs.
  • Some page types cannot take their own settings. Blog tag pages, Pro Gallery expand mode, and Challenges sit outside the override system.
  • Bulk editing does not cover everything. Titles and descriptions can be templated across a page type using variables. Bulk indexable status and resetting to defaults currently apply to main pages and blog posts only.
  • URL structures are editable within limits. Product and blog post URLs can be restructured with variables, and Wix will create the redirects. What you cannot do is compose your own hierarchy across the site the way you would on a self-hosted platform.
  • Speed depends heavily on the template. Some Wix templates are considerably heavier than others, and once a site is built on one, there is limited scope to fix that at the code level.
  • There is no server access. No log files, no server-level configuration, and no view of how crawlers are actually moving through the site beyond what Search Console reports.

None of this makes Wix unusable. It makes certain problems expensive to solve, which is why the platform matters more for a growing content site than for a ten-page service business.

What SEO Changes on a Wix Site

Most of the work that moves a Wix site is work the platform fully supports.

Titles and meta descriptions are the clearest example. A large number of Wix sites are running on whatever text the editor generated at build time, or on titles written for the business rather than for search. That is usually the fastest change available, and it affects click-through rate rather than rankings, which is where most of these sites are losing.

Content depth is the second. Wix makes it easy to publish a page and difficult to notice that the page says very little. Pages built to answer what someone is actually searching for tend to outperform better-optimised pages that do not.

Structure is the third. Wix will let a site grow one page at a time with no hierarchy behind it. Deciding which pages exist, what each one is for, and how they link to each other is not a platform question, and it is often the largest available gain.

For service businesses, local visibility usually sits alongside this. Google Business Profile, consistent business information, and location-relevant content are outside the website entirely, so no platform limit applies.

None of that requires moving off Wix. It requires someone deciding what the site should rank for and building the pages to do it.

How a Wix SEO Engagement Is Scoped

There is no standard package. Every proposal is written after I have looked at your site, not before.

The engagement starts with a diagnosis. I go through the site structure, the content, the on-page setup, and your Search Console data, then work out what is actually limiting performance. On a Wix site this includes an honest answer about whether the platform is a factor, because sometimes it is and most of the time it is not.

The diagnosis looks at:

Only what the diagnosis flags makes it into the proposal. You receive a document that names your problems in order of what they are costing you, with the work priced against those problems specifically. Where something is not worth doing, the proposal says so and leaves it out.

If the diagnosis shows the platform genuinely is the ceiling, you will be told that too, even though it is the answer that makes the engagement smaller.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not unless you have a reason that holds up. Migration costs money, takes time, and carries risk around redirects and rankings. It is worth doing when you are hitting the platform’s limits. It is not worth doing because someone told you Wix is bad for SEO.

WordPress gives you more control, which matters at scale and for technically complex sites. Wix covers the fundamentals and asks less of you. For a small site, the difference is smaller than the internet suggests.

It depends on the size of the site and what the diagnosis finds. You can get an indication from the SEO cost calculator, and a fixed figure after I have looked at the site.

Yes, with contributor access. Most of the work sits in the SEO panel, page settings, and content, none of which requires rebuilding anything.

Rarely. Custom structured data and meta tags are handled in the SEO settings without any development work. Velo becomes relevant for custom functionality, not for the SEO work that changes results on most sites.

Ready to Find Out What Your Wix Site Can Do?

Plenty of Wix sites get built, published, and never looked at again. The pages go up, the business moves on, and nobody checks whether any of it is being found.

Hiring an SEO expert for a Wix website should start with someone looking at the site, not telling you to rebuild it.

Send me the URL and I will tell you what I find, including whether the platform is worth changing.
